My personal experience is that I have never moved forward in my life (personal or business) without breaking out of my comfort zone and trying something new. As a photographer you can push yourself out of that zone in so many ways. The important aspect is to ensure if it involves working with a client, is that you are well prepared, well rehearsed and have the technical ability (plus equipment) to be able to deliver.
I have a wide range of experience in many technical aspects and therefore the comfort zone, technically is very wide, so how to push myself? I have decided to create portraits of strangers on the street. I don’t mean candid, I mean engaging people, having a conversation, asking them to pose (if they agree). This is something I have very rarely done, most of my portraits over the years have been pre agreed and planned sessions.
For those interested, I am also shooting these portraits on a 1980's classic Medium Format film camera.
I am expecting it to have a very positive impact on how I engage with people in arranged portrait shoots.
